In December of 2011, MidAmerican Printing Systems invested in two new pieces of machinery, the Xerox iGen4™ and the KBA 105. As stated by President Jerry Freund, “this is an investment in our employees, our customers and Chicago. In order to be at the forefront of our industry and provide our customers with the best product at the best price, we needed to upgrade some of our large printing presses to accommodate our client’s needs and offer options to help save them money.”
The Xerox iGen4™ produces state-of-the-art quality using its unsurpassed technology. With a maximum sheet size of 26″ x 14.33″, we can now produce 6-page – 25.5 x 11 brochures digitally. The new iGen4™also features a special matte dry ink system, replicating lithographic quality.
This high-tech, eco-friendly iGen4 allows us to provide the highest quality digital color printing faster, better and more cost effective than any other digital press on the market. For those customers who use our print-on-demand services, one-to-one marketing or variable data printing, this new iGen4 saves time and therefore saves you money on your print job.
The image quality that comes off this press rivals offset. Advanced color management tools ensure consistent, high definition color. And, if you want to use a heavier stock, the iGen4 can handle up to 18 point board, allowing you to print on virtually any stock available.
Since we purchased the machine in December, we’ve been printing a lot of books and manuals on the iGen4 as again, it produces a high end product at very competitive pricing. We’ve also found it to be an asset for photo publishing such as yearbooks, greeting cards and photo directories. For those of you that need statements, bills and invoices printed, this new machine can turn those items into high-value marketing materials.
The other new machine is a KBA 105. For those clients interested in printing on heavier or more exotic substrates, we now have the capacity to do so. The KBA 105 allows us to print on a wide variety of styrene and board grades up to 40 points, in addition to standard text and cover weight stocks at sizes up to 28″ x 41″. The KBA also features hexachrome (6-color process) printing as well as flood and spot aqueous coating capabilities.
The infrared drying feature dries ink quickly, which has come in handy for many projects in the last couple of months. One job was for a local association that was hosting a meeting in town. Our job was to print 30,000 Show Dailies, 10,000 each day, to be distributed to the attendees each morning.
If you’ve ever been to a convention or large association meeting, the Show Daily is the paper typically consisting of 16 to 32 pages you receive in the morning that includes content and photos of what happened the day prior. As a printer, we receive the files at 6pm one day and have to proof, burn plates, print, fold, saddle stitch and deliver to the hotel or convention center within a 12-hour window.
We can deliver a 6-color Show Daily within that short timeframe because our new KBA’s technology allows us to make ready quickly, run sheets at high speeds and permits us to back up or begin binding dry sheets almost immediately .
While your business might not print Show Dailies, the KBA is more than capable to handle any of your quick turnaround printing needs.
